COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
The Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI) is seeking to fill a vacancy for a communications intern. The successful candidate will join SERI’s first-rate research and advocacy team, which undertakes research, community-based public education, media advocacy and associated services with a wide range of communities and social movements.
The intern must be able to commit to SERI on a full-time basis for a period of twelve months from 1 June 2026. SERI will offer a salary of R165 360.00 per annum to the successful intern. The intern must meet the following criteria:
Essential
- Demonstrable interest in human rights.
- Tertiary qualification in Journalism, Communications, Media, or a related field.
- Ability to create basic graphics and/or edit videos using tools like Canva, CapCut, Adobe Suite or similar
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends.
- Good writing and communication skills.
Desirable
- Interest in, and experience of, research and publication.
- Photography or videography skills.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning and implementation of digital campaigns
- Produce and edit multimedia content (graphics, short videos, captions, reels, and stories)
- Contribute to content development for SERI’s website and publications
- Monitor and report on social media engagement and performance metrics
- Maintain and update SERI’s communications database
