[ADVOCACY] SERI attends the Women’s Spaces Project Steering Committee in Nairobi (20 March 2025).

From the 24 – 28 February 2025, attended the Women’s Space: Project Steering Committee Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya. 

The objective of the meeting was for the reginal partners in the Women’s Spaces project to provide project updates, discuss challenges, lesson learned and plan for 2025/26 financial year.

SERI made presentations based on its ongoing research which interrogate women’s access to land and housing in different tenure contexts in South Africa.   

SERI also presented  on forthcoming Informal Settlement report and impacts of Mazingira Institute and Slovo Park exchange which brought innovative and impactful urban food gardening in Slovo Park Informal Settlement, South Africa. 

Overall, the PSC was successful in strengthening the relations between partners in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Angola and Canada and the discussions provided critical insight and debate in unpacking and confronting key challenges faced by everyday women on the continent who seek to secure their rights to access and exercise control over land and housing. 

The women’s spaces project is a funded by Global Affairs Canda.
